A topographic survey indicates the relative elevation of the land, and shows all significant improvements (i.e. buildings, roadways, utilities) throughout the limits of the area surveyed. A topographic survey is typically illustrated with contours lines and spot elevations. Contours can have varying accuracy based on the contour interval (the vertical distance from one contour line to another) for which the map was prepared.
